The Canadian Iranian Medical Association was founded in early 2002 by a group of Iranian physicians as a networking platform for colleagues practising across the Greater Toronto Area and Ontario. Any Iranian physician holding a valid CPSO certificate of registration for independent practice may join.

Our purpose
CIMA promotes the professional and social interests of its members and creates the means for physicians to meet, share, and discuss their scientific and professional ideas together. Members are invited to CME events as well as the social and cultural gatherings held throughout the year.
Our History
Four decades in the making.
- Late 80s
A casual gathering
Dr. Hadian called a meeting of Iranian-Canadian physicians. The first nucleus formed around Dr. Hadian, Dr. Asayesh, Dr. Maleki, Dr. Beheshti, Dr. Boozari and Dr. Fazel.
- Early 90s
A broader association
The group grew to include physicians, dentists and pharmacists, electing a Board each year. Dr. Adab served as the first president; Dr. Asayesh and Dr. Boozari later led. As numbers grew, each profession formed its own association and the physicians chose to stand alone.
- 2001
A revival
After a period of hibernation, Dr. Neda Amani and Dr. Afshan Zahedi restarted the group and served as co-presidents for eight years. Dr. Masoud Grouhi is credited with the name that would carry it forward.
- 2002
CIMA is founded
The association was registered as a non-profit corporation — the Canadian Iranian Medical Association — to serve Iranian physicians practising across the Greater Toronto Area and Ontario.
- Since
A widening circle
Directors including Dr. Fatereh Akhlaghi, Dr. Abbas Azadian, Dr. Saeed Kalantari, Dr. Kamran Bordbar, Dr. Haleh Doulatyari Azar, Dr. Sanaz Zarinehbaf, Dr. Hamid Mojab and Dr. Atoosa Enzevaei carried the work forward.

The current board
Dr. Mahnaz Mahmoudi, Dr. Toghra Ghaemmaghami, Dr. Nick Dortaj and Dr. Negin Mastoori serve as the current Board of Directors.
